FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE!!

Absolutely loved every minute of it!! Was great to see Jason Donovan back again as Pharaoh. It was my 11 year old son's first time and he loved it and was singing along to 'any dream will do.'

JOSEPH AND HIS TECHNICOLOUR DREAMS COAT

never seen this show before but girlfriend's had in my opinion fantastic very uptodate with the bollywood section and references to country and western humour was spot on jason Donovan took the micky out of himself deserved its standing ovation Saturday 11th matinee would recommend even if seen before completely different to other productions and the kids were a delight

A REALLY GREAT SHOW!

I have seen the show at least twice before and this was by far the best production. The bright costumes, sets and props were excellent but above all the performances of Linzi Hateley, Jak Yarrow and Jason Donovan were outstanding. In addition the clever use of the narrator as Jacob and Potiphar's wife and the superb kids in various parts was a genius idea. We had a great view and we enjoyed this fun and engaging show ... and I was delighted to see Jason Donovan who was really well received by the audience! Thanks to the cast, musicians and all who gave us a great evening out.

THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON

I hadn't seen the show before but 1 of my company had seen the show with Philip Scholfield. Totally reworked for modern day and it was FANTASTIC. the story was brilliantly done. The Narrator was PHENOMENAL, she knows how to work a crowd - hats off to her. Jason Donovan as the Pharoh was brilliant, he embraced the part fantastically and the crowd loved him. The part of Joseph was also very well done. The kids are brilliant as always, they can make or break a show, and they helped make it superd. All in All : - Hats off 10/10

I’M GOING AGAIN!

I wasn’t sure if I’d like the more modern twist on this show but after getting used to the slapstick of the narrator, I loved it! I couldn’t really tell what JasonD was singing but it was still fun. I really liked Jacob’s sons and the little bits of humour here and there were great! Fantastic set with an AMAZING conductor and orchestra.

JOSEPH EDINBURGH

Firstly, I’m not sure why this website allows someone to multiple copy/ paste a review for a show under many different names because they didn’t like the kids beards. It a shame because it lowers the average score, and perhaps denies a family having THE BEST night in a theatre that they could possible have … we all absolutely loved it, and thought it was 10/10zz

TOTALLY BRILLIANT

Seen Joseph many times. This blew every other time out if the water. The whole cast was outstanding. The production was unbelievable. I find kids on stage ok but in small doses..these kids were sensational. Joseph was totally amazing as was Narrator and Pharoah. I’ll remember this for a long time. Well done all. Brilliant.

WONDERFUL

Very enjoyable evening. Cast brilliant , particularly narrator , Joseph and Pharaoh . Disappointed not to see Joseph singing and wearing his Technicolour Dreamcoat at the end of the show.

ALL SINGING, ALL DANCING JAZZ HANDS!

I saw Joseph many years ago and don’t remember much about it but I was not expecting that! The performances were brilliant and exhilarating. Jason Donovan was outstanding, he still got it! After they came out after their encore, they came back out and got everyone up to sing along and dance! That was like an extra show itself. That was great fun. My 14 year didn’t know the story of Joseph but he thought it was amazing and had a great time. The only negative is a technical issue, it is uncomfortably loud, my son’s ears were ringing afterwards (not good), my sister was in stalls she found it spoiled the experience. I would definitely not take young kids.

JOSEPH MANCHESTER

Why has the Producer changed this into a comedy/concert?The most beautiful end to the story is when Joseph wears his coat of many colours, this doesn’t happen.I didn’t enjoy it much prefer the original anytime. The Orchestra was brilliant .

DISAPPOINTED

I watched this production many years ago at the London Palladium. I was hoping it was going to be the same, it was more like a comedy and some of the songs had been changed. Therefore did not enjoy as much. The musical director was outstanding.

LIKE A SCHOOL PLAY

I saw Joseph many years ago and the production blew me away. While I enjoyed last night's performance it seemed very low budget and a bit tacky. There was not enough cast members, meaning many of them had to take on several roles and most of them were done by children and Alexandra Burke. The use of the children really spoilt it for me. They were very talented but made the performance very farcical. After paying over £100 for 2 tickets I felt a bit short changed. If I had know that this was how the performance was going to be I wouldn't of bought tickets

SLIGHTLY DISAPPOINTED

Having watched Joseph several times before, this performance left me feeling somewhat deflated. There is no doubt that Jack Yarrow was superb and the best Joseph I have seen but the use of children in key parts of the performance wearing fake beards made it comical in a bad way. Some key sections no longer stood out and with main characters missing, replaced by children or the narrator- it just wasn’t as good. Such a shame because the music, musicians and parts of it were excellent.

3.0 star rating Jill from Glasgow,

DISAPPOINTED

A lot of the heart, warmth and narrative flow of the original show has been lost due to the production changes . Usually the actor who plays Pharaoh also plays Jacob, Potifar etc. Presumably because Jason Donovan is Pharaoh this time, the small parts were played by the narrator or child actors . Not an improvement. The addition of more parts for children might appeal to young members of the audience but didn’t hit the right note for me. Lots of gurning from the narrator, unnecessary slapstick and none of the more dramatic moments of the original production. The band was far too loud in the bigger numbers. I couldn’t make out a single word that Jason Donovan sang. Such a pity as it’s a much loved show.

POOR VERSION OF A CLASSIC

Given 2* only for the musical itself. Poor version of a classic. Jason was great as was the star who played Joseph but the narrator had too big a part. She played Joseph's dad amongst others! Children playing adult parts like Joseph's brothers. A child of about 8 playing Potiphar and the narrator aged about late 40s playing his wife?! It's called Joseph NOT Narrator. Each production team may want to make it their own but this version has been spoilt to the point of looking and feeling like a child's cheap school nativity play where a lot of the cast have phoned in sick and their roles have been given to one person to play them all. I'm afraid to say there was soo much wrong with this version a 1000 characters to give a review is not enough. Please bring back the coat of many colours which opens out behind him and adults playing adult parts. Dont mess with a classic. Peeps save your money and book next year when hopefully this classic musical will return to its original splendour.

Not the best production. Where was Jacob and Pharos wife? Not recommended. Even Jason Donovan couldn't save it.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT

As someone that has seen this production many times I was really looking forward to seeing Joseph again, especially as Jason Donovan was playing pharaoh. However, this production was very disappointing, where was Jacob? One of the most touching parts of the story is when Joseph And Jacob reunite and Joseph puts on his coat and opens it up to reveal all the colours. This did not happen. And where was potiphars wife? Another good scene missed. Also not enough costume changes, missed the cast dancing in the aisles! If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

DISAPPOINTED

Played as a comedy, why? Couldn't follow story or sing a long to my favourite show. Too many changes Egyptians? French cafe? American? And so loud couldn't hear their actual words. Narrator was like a comic trying to get laughs. Couldn't sing a long like I was looking forward to.

DISAPPOINTED

A pared down and dumbed down rendition of a classic. The narrator and children were playing adult roles, which I can only assume was to reduce costs. But the scene where Joseph was reunited with Jacob was completely lost. Songs were elongated to incorporate, at times inappropriate dance routines presumably as that's what people want rather than a story. Well not me. The original has humour built into it, so why they felt the need for crass and base additions both verbally and visually I have no idea. It felt more like a panto than a classy West End show. This and the use of children singing adult parts meant that the beautiful heart felt numbers and moments were left flat and shallow. I'm sad to be so critical when I love the theatre, so to add a positive I will say that the actor playing Reuben had an incredible voice. If you've never seen it before I'm sure you'd love it, but if you have, don't go, it'll break your heart.

We came away disappointed. We felt the story was not told, you did not connect to the characters at all. Lots of fill in from the orchestra. Narrator turned it into a comedy and was so nasally it was hard to listen too. Women felt like tokens on the stage. Cast didn’t take the story themselves it was like it was just about Jason Donovan. So disappointed after seeing it before and having wonderful memories.

MMMM... DISAPPOINTING

I'm a fan if this show. I've grown up with the music and I've seen the star role played by Donny, Jason and Philip. But this left me feeling a bit sad. Don't get me wrong, there were strong performances from the narrator and Joseph. The cast were comprised of good singers, dancers and performers. The songs are great of course. But, it just didn't gel because the storytelling was so poor. The production was all about the dance routines and the talented kids (what were they even doing there?!) The story moved too fast - the audience weren't allowed to experience the important story hooks of brotherly jealousy; favourite sons; years of glut and famine - none of the underlying themes that allow the story of Joseph's betrayal and redemption to make sense. This is an example of where no matter how good the talent and the plot, if a well-kent story is poorly realised, it will flop and disappoint. Poor show.

POOR RENDITION OFF A GREAT SHOW

Have seen the show many times in many theaters. Have always really enjoyed it this time sadly I did not. Came across as very amateurish. Jak Yarrow was brilliant right up there with the best of them Jason Donovan included. Didn't think he brought much to the show and the narrator thought it was all about her. I felt for the money we paid it should have been more professional and not the amateur dramatics it came over as. Won't put me off going to see it again somewhere else just not this production. It's a really great show if done better.

SO TACKY

Would not recommend this production. It was so wrong on so many levels. Music was too loud and you therefore couldn’t hear the words properly. It was like a comedy that wasn’t funny. Seen lots of shows and this was head and shoulders above as being the worst ever. Save your money.

1.0 star rating Caroline from Bristol,

DISAPPOINTED

Was really disappointed with many aspects of this show . The orchestra was so loud that the story was so difficult to follow due to being unable to follow the words being sang .it was all one distorted noise. Also the use of children for some parts made it feel like a amateurish production.. msybe if we could have made out the words we could have appriated them more. We felt like the use of a French cafe, cheer leaders slapstick comedy and elvis didn't do it any justice and made it tacky. We didn't think its what Webber and Rice originally intended. I wouldn't recommend and think that it was a waste of money .

1.0 star rating Jean from Edinburgh,

TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED

I saw this years ago with Scofield and enjoyed it so much, this time didn’t even stay till the end, why change something that has a great story… when did they have wagons and cowboy boots in Egypt?? wish we’d gone to see something else, waste of money.

1.0 star rating Richard from Edinburgh

POOR RENDITION OF A CLASSIC

It is such a shame that they used children for leads of key songs, and inappropriately for Potiphar. Music was so loud as to set your ears ringing and kids asking the theatre for ear muffs. My son, who had not seen it before, completely missed the story line! I think the raised volume levels are to drown out those singing along out-of-tune in the audience!
